Trivial Delights

Opening as part of the Summer Art Exhibitions at 5.30pm on 2 March 2017 at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick

Richard Stewart uses his technical training to explore the familiar painting genre of still life, but injects playful characterisations using LEGO as his subject matter; particularly the LEGO Spacemen. Two major themes are developed in his work, the tension between naive gestural drawing and a more deliberate academic style and the difference between finished and unfinished work.
