News | WHAT'S ON | The Galeries emerging artist exhibition In partnership with Art Month Sydney

Posted on Tuesday, 27 June, 2017

"Sydney’s cultural and lifestyle retail destination, The Galeries, will showcase the very best of contemporary art with its annual emerging artist exhibition. It is presented in partnership with Art Month.

The one-of-a-kind exhibition showcases and supports Australia’s next generation of art talent. After initiating a public call out to the emerging artist community during Art Month in March, five finalists have been hand-selected for the showcase by Art Month’s Artistic Director Barry Keldoulis. The group encapsulates developing talent across a multitude of media featuring Robin Hearfield, Joanne Makas, Zac Harold, Hana Hoogedeure and Zoe Wong.

Each artist has been inspired by far-ranging motivations from Hana Hoogedeure’s ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ to Zoe Wong’s inspiration, Disney’s Mulan. The beauty of fold manipulation and chance has instigated the works from Joanne Makas whilst the pieces from Robin McIntyre Hearfield showcase Greek fable through the medium of virtual space. Zac Harold, the director at Stacks Project, works with the interpretations and recreation of space and the dynamic of mundane objects. The diversity in inspiration and backgrounds will undoubtedly create a feeling of unique artistic appreciation for each visitor.

Customers will also be able to take part in the process by voting in the People’s Choice award. A $1,000 cash prize will be given to the people’s favourite. Each vote entry by shoppers will receive a complimentary SoL Cup, a hand blown reusable coffee cup designed exclusively by Sydney illustrator Furry Little Peach. It will then be filled with a free, delicious coffee from two café favourites, Sumo Salad (Monday to Friday) and The Daily Eatery (Saturday and Sunday)."
