Art Month presents the NAB Private Wealth Emerging Artist Award

Posted on Friday, 8 August, 2014

In 2014 Art Month and NAB Private Wealth launched the NAB Private Wealth Emerging Artist Award, a new acquisitive award for emerging artists in their first 10 years of practice. The award was met with enthusiasm from industry and media alike, and attracted over 300 entries.

A shortlist of 20 unrepresented emerging artists were invited to participate in 20/20, a unique professional development day that saw them meet with twenty of Sydney’s top gallerists, sharing their work for feedback, advice, exposure and ultimately the chance to gain representation. At the conclusion of the event, each gallerist nominated the artists they felt were strongest to go through to the next round; the Finalists Exhibition.

The 2014 Finalists are Tully Arnot, Julian Day, Mike Hewson, Katie Lee, Lisa Sammut, Camille Serisier, Bridget Walker and Jason Wing.

The exhibition has been curated by Sebastian Goldspink and the $10,000 acquisitive award will be judged by Barry Keldoulis, Director, Sydney Contemporary; Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Senior Curator, Artbank and Claire Marshall, Curator.

Goldspink said of the exhibition: "The finalists for the Emerging Artist Award represent a significant cross section of emerging artists working in Australia. Their work is bold and diverse, traversing a wide variety of mediums. As a curator, it’s a privilege to mount such an exciting exhibition in a unique and engaging location."

The winner of the acquisitive award will be announced on September 9, 2014 at the official exhibition launch at HASSELL Studio, Level 2, Pier 8/9, 23 Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay Creative Precinct, Sydney. The Finalists Exhibition is open to the public and will continue until Friday September 20th.

Good luck to all the finalists!
