Art Month Appoints Kate Britton As Artistic Director Of The 2018 Festival
Art Month Sydney will return in March 2018 and planning has started with the appointment…
7 NovPresented by Art Month Sydney. Introduced by Barry Keldoulis, the Artistic Director of Art Month, who will shed light on some of the inaccuracies and quirks of the film from his personal experience.
A beautiful biopic about the incredible artist Jean–Michel Basquiat, who rose to fame in the New York art scene of the early1980s, after making a (largely anonymous) name for himself with his graffiti work – often using SAMO as a pseudonym. This film tracks Basquiat’s colourful life – from homelessness to infamous street artist to Warhol darling. Drugs, parties, and lots and lots of paint.
The debut film of American painter Julian Schnabel (Before Night Falls, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Basquiat features an incredible cast including Jeffrey Wright as the titular artist, David Bowie (!) as Andy Warhol, and Parker Posey as gallerist Mary Boone, alongside Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, Benicio del Toro, Claire Forlani, Willem Dafoe, Sam Rockwell and – wait for it – Courtney Love. Oh, and Vincent Gallo as himself (OF COURSE).
