Brave Heart : Opening Night

Geoff Raby, former China ambassador and collector talking about collecting contemporary Chinese art and Opening of Brave Heart

Brave Heart showcases works by a new generation of Chinese artists. The exhibition is curated by artist and curator Cang Xin and includes works by six emerging artists -  Ji Yiwei, Kong Weimeng, Pang Shaoxian, Shao Fengtian, Shu Xinghua and Tian Xiaolei.

These works, on show for the first time in Australia, include paintings, sculpture and video art. Collectively, they demonstrate the very different preoccupations of this younger generation of Chinese artists compared to their immediate, and now well known, predecessors. They are less obviously influenced by the foment of the Maoist era, and their subjects range from depictions of everyday objects to representations of myth and fantasy.

Dr Geoff Raby is former Australian ambassador to China. He has been collecting contemporary Chinese art for many years and his collection include several hundred works by a wide range of contemporary Chinese artists.
